Welcome to Essensen af Gaarden
(Previously known as Fredag på Gaarden)
A place where you get a truly unique experience…
An experience over and above the norm that includes more than just our amazing tasty dishes.
You see, our 5 hectares of land, which has been around for over 100 years, is packed with secrets and small hiding places! We’ve found them all, and if you’re lucky, maybe you will too? Without giving away too much, we can promise that you’ll have an experience of a lifetime – and that you’ll leave with a smile.
The price includes all the goodies you get as part of the experience; great wines and food sourced from our large kitchen garden, fish from Strandby and meat from the local area.
We start at 18:00 and say farewell at 23.00. We look forward to seeing you in Understed.
Price per pers. DKK 1895
The price includes great food and wine, wonderful surroundings, cosy rooms, a chat with the chef and yes – the experience of a lifetime…
Is there another world hiding under this place?

Here is a sample menu, but since we have our own large kitchen garden
and our produce is seasonal, this is just one example.
Cold snacks
Champagne
Hot grilled snacks
More champagne
Soup made from our greenhouse tomatoes and Norwegian lobster
Ideally a good Riesling from Germany, a Mosel perhaps?
Veg from the garden with dips
Albarino
Flounder, cabbage and mussels
It has to be a white Burgundy…
Hake, parsley and celery
Maybe a South African Semillon blanc
Wild forest produce, mushrooms and excellent sauce
It can only be a Bordeaux.
Cheese and pickles from the farm
White or red, maybe both.
Apples and sorbet, sweet treats and vanilla
Sweet wines but not too sweet
Coffee with petit fours
Perhaps a cognac or rum…
